Type 531 Elephant Ear Backpack

The Elephant Ear backpack is cut from a single piece of heavy fabric bound around the edges with ecru cotton and folded up, with an ear at each side, riveted through to the back with a brass eyelet.

An inner cotton bag is fastened into the open edge of this cradle, which supports and protects the bag, while leaving it open to expand from the sides, and allowing the cradle to also hold a folded coat, umbrella, or newspaper.

The Elephant Ear Backpack is supported on wide cotton webbing straps, and fastened with a lost wax-cast ‘Keyhole’ belt buckle.The base and back are further layered with a cotton facing, and the adjustable straps are fitted with removable shoulder pads.The inner bag is closed with a waxed cotton drawstring.
