Permuted cable garments are knit in an allover cable stitch from two fold merino worsted spun wool yarn. Merino yarn is particularly fine, so needs to be doubled up, or folded, to create the substantial weight of these garments.
Cable knitting patterns are usually raised over a plain background, however these cables have been permuted to form a solid pattern, thrown into more or less sharp relief by combining a base black yarn with contrasting colours of olive and pimento, or allowing the texture to speak for itself in the double black combination.
